Half of Scots see Muslims as 'cultural threat' in wake of terrorist ...
We must address this to ensure Scotland's future success as a welcoming, modern nation." ANALYSIS: PREJUDICE AGAINST FAITH NOT COLOURTHE revealing statistic in yesterday's government report into discrimination is that while 4 per cent of people would object to an Asian teacher, 21 per cent would do so if it was a Muslim teacher writes Osama Saeed. It confirms the trend whereby people of colour have gained increasing acceptance, while prejudice now targets people because of their faith. We now have a situation where white people of Celtic stock convert to Islam and are being told to "go home". To where? Glasgow? Recently a lady who converted was called a "White Paki" because of her hijab . A group of thugs threw a glass bottle at her. According to the report, half of Scots believe that the addition of more Muslims will threaten the country's identity.

Soon, outlandishly sized parachute bucktails or heavy umbrella rigs loaded with soft-bodied white or chartreuse Sassy Shad bodies were released over the squeaky-clean boat's transom, port and starboard sides. Sadler let out several hundred feet of line from each outfit, double-checked the drag mechanisms on the reels, then stuck the rods into their holders. The trolling began, but Sadler didn't join the merry-go-round. He stayed away from the other boats, kept the radio chatter to a minimum, and right around the time we munched on the first sandwich of the day Sadler shouted, "Fish on!" .
Nihangs display martial valour
Jasvir Singh, a Sikh student who was expelled from a public school in France for wearing turban, his mother Surjit Kaur and his brother Karamvir Singh have come to Punjab to seek help of Sikh politicians and religious leaders. They met Sikh high priests yesterday at Anandpur Sahib. They also sought help of people of Punjab in this connection by joining a brief protest held by Nihangs and other Sikhs to seek the quashing of ban on wearing turban in French public schools. Mr Karamvir Singh, elder brother of Jasvir Singh, talking to The Tribune on phone from Jalandhar, said today that the turban issue had not been resolved yet. Sikh students wearing turbans were not allowed admission to public schools where education is provided free of cost. Ms Surjit Kaur said Jasvir Singh, who was rusticated from the school along with Vikramjit Singh, Ranjit Singh, Gurjot Singh and Gurmolak Singh in France for wearing turbans in the school, was now studying through correspondence.

She set out as she had done every Sunday afternoon for years. She locked her door, turned to the weather, and held the hand rail as she stepped carefully down from the porch. Once on the ground she adjusted her hat on her gray head. As this was a winter day in the Christmas season, a cold day, she also adjusted her coat. Had it been raining, she would have pulled a large lawn and leaf bag, as if it were a poncho, over her head and upper body. Most times she shouldered her hand bag. This day she also shouldered a bulging plastic shopping bag. She walked along the dirt road that would lead her to the paved road that would lead her to the highway. Her only company was her shadow, small and indistinct at her feet. She walked without the deliberate care of someone unfamiliar with the terrain, but neither was her gait quick.

England a fleeting memory for Gavin McCann
There is a Premiership footballer, demonstrating his robust skills before the lenses of the world, who would prefer a profile so low you almost need to lift up the carpet to find him. In pics: Premier League actionPremier League Transfer TalkBolton Wanderers homepage | Fans' forumGavin McCann was plucked from Sunderland's midfield in Sven-Goran Eriksson's first England squad, played, but was never seen again. He has moved through Everton, Sunderland and Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers with aggregate transfer fees approaching £4 million but concedes that even if Fabio Capello springs a similar surprise, it is unlikely to be to this most modest of footballers that he turns. .
