Police ID Man Accused Of Crimes Against Children

NORTH HILLS, Calif. -- Police Monday identified the 24-year-old Sylmar man arrested in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a 4-year-old girl in North Hills and the inappropriate touching of a 17-year-old girl the same day.

David Trujillo was booked on Saturday on suspicion of kidnapping for the purpose of a lewd act, said Los Angeles police Lt. Ruben De La Torre. Trujillo was held without bail at the Van Nuys jail, according to a police statement.

Advertising giant Grey Global re-launches in Cairo by op...

Born in Aswan, Abdel Dhaher has both Nubian and Saeedi roots. Although he left Aswan as a child and came to settle in Cairo, Abdel Dhaher never really left Egypt's most magical city. “My painting style is social realism. I paint the reality of life in the South. I've loved to paint the daily life or the environment in the South ever since I was a student of Fine Arts," he says.

Armed with a sketch pad at all times, Abdel Dhaher quickly draws everything he sees, a zir (water jar), a cousin feeding the chickens, another cousin feeding the ducks, his nephews' double wedding, or the belly dancer and zammar (flute player) at a wedding.

Few people have heard of a Saeedi painter. It's not that Upper Egyptians aren't blessed with artistic talent. They are. It is just that those painters who originally come from Upper Egypt more often than not tend to stray away from their roots and try to become urbanized.

Feed the Minds asks Christians to support female literacy for Lent

Christian international development charity Feed the Minds (FTM) is appealing to the Christian community to lend its support to female literacy for its 2008 Lent Appeal.

The charity currently supports literacy projects within 20 countries across the Globe, designed to help women gain basic literacy skills that will benefit the individuals, their families and wider community.

One such project is based in Afghanistan, where under the Taliban regime there was no female education, girl's schools were burned down and women were forbidden to work. Today, women's literacy in the country stands at only 12.5 per cent.

Feed the Minds has developed literacy programmes centred on health and hygiene, with the most vulnerable in society, such as orphans or widows, selected to participate.

Religion Book Notes

The sound of publishers' envelopes and boxes dropping onto the office floor is a steady reminder that there is no end to the writing of books, including books about religion. So many words; so little time to ingest and savor. But I do my best to skim and sometimes even to peruse.

In a time of increased fascination with matters political, it is hardly surprising that books on religion and politics command immediate attention. Jacques Berlinerblau, a professor of Jewish studies at Georgetown University, couldn't be more timely with his wittily titled warning to presidential wannabes, Thumpin' It: The Use and Abuse of the Bible in Today's Presidential Politics. The message here is that Oval Office hopefuls, all of whom are prone to quoting from the Good Book to support their positions, need to be more careful about those slippery, contradictory, and sometimes even nonexistent passages from the Bible.
