| Readers get behind us for shaming litter louts
It's about time litter louts faced up to their behaviour and changed it. "There is absolutely no excuse for dropping litter and I believe naming and shaming those responsible is an extremely effective tool." The list of shame was obtained from Glasgow City Council which also plans to publish it on their website as part of their £4million Clean Glasgow campaign. Every person on the list has admitted their guilt by paying a £50 fine issued for dropping litter, discarding a cigarette end, allowing their dog to foul the streets or fly-tipping. More than 6000 fines have been issued - mostly by litter wardens - since February. There was also support for our campaign on the streets. Pensioner John Berry, 63, from Dennistoun, said: "I'm right behind the Evening Times people who drop litter should be ashamed." Laurence Johnstone, 52, of Muirhead, said: "Hopefully by having their names printed these people will now think twice before dumping litter." Jean Ferguson of the city centre said: "More people should be fined and publicly shamed.
Emily Jade O'Keeffe hurt in skiing accident
WHAT was to be a romantic skiing trip to Canada over the festive season for radio gal Emily Jade O'Keeffe and her hubby-to-be Gerard Murtagh turned into a medical emergency for the Nova personality. The pair was two days into a 10-day skiing "vacation" when Emily tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left leg and her cries for help bellowed around the slopes of Whistler. "I was on a blue run and the ski lodged itself in a mogul and my body kept moving and twisting," Emily told Qconfidential yesterday. Stuck in the snow, Emily was ferried down the mountain on a sled, transferred to an ambulance and taken to hospital where she was told she would require a knee reconstruction and nine months of rehabilitation before she would fully overcome the injury.
Radio & TV Talk
Makes you wonder why all the road rage. Oh…for those young ones who don't know what I'm talking about (this includes the station executives): MUSIC (myoo'zik) n. Vocal or instrumental sounds having some degree of melody, harmony, or rythm. (hee hee hee) Notice that the definition mentions nothing about nonsensical ramblings of an egotist? .
Laurie David: One Seriously 'Inconvenient' Woman
A few years ago, Eric Alterman wrote a big article for The Atlantic Monthly on Hollywood activism. He took exception to the fact that back then, she was using a private plane — while publicly urging greater fuel economy. But Alterman does believe David has made a big difference. "If you judge Laurie on how one citizen holding no office has managed to reach millions of people, then she deserves an enormous amount of credit," he says. "After Al Gore, she's probably done more than anyone in America." And then there are the ripple effects of David's work. The smart-alecks at South Park parodied her in an episode called "Smug Alert." And the comic Sarah Silverman recently spoofed the Oscar-winning An Inconvenient Truth. "I was thrilled," David says. "Anytime anyone spoofs anything on global warming, it's good — it gets the word out." David says there's nothing altruistic about her mission — that on a personal, self-interested level, she's simply terrified about the effects of global warming.
Man arrested for sex acts with handicapped person
The scariest thoughts are the ones that have never been caught. That's is why we should talk to our children & give them warning signs to watch for both from men and women. I'm not saying men are worse than women. What I'm saying is it is mostly men that kidnap these small children the torture, rape, kill & then throw their little precious bodies away like a pieces of trash then go their merry way like nothing ever happened. So yes it is a two way thing but I stand firm in my belief that more men are to balme than women. .
